WATER CHALK

WATER CHALK

Today was a sunny but kind of cold day. I really enjoyed observing today because there was a practicum student with new and fresh ideas. She had a lesson plan based on the child's interest and it was also seasonal. I also observed how the teachers supported the practicum student. It is great because it shows how our mentors support us.

The child that I am observing for my DRDP initiated the water chalk activity. She started the activity on Wednesday and has worked on it till today. The chalk activity started next to the water table in the main playground. It continued through the sidewalk near the toddler playground gate.

One of the girls got an idea she said," Let's make foot prints." They walked on top of the water chalk on the cement and then walked  on the dry cement. The activity started with one student and then more children joined. One child told my observing child ," Hey what are you doing?" Observing child told him," I am painting." Peer asked her," Where's the chalk?" Observing chil said," I don't know." Peer went to the teacher. Teacher brought the tub of chalk to the area the children were working on. By the time it was time to go inside seven children were engaged in the activity and did not want to stop doing the activity. The child that I am observing for my DRDP would mix the colors. First she used the yellow chalk and then used blue chalk. She told her friend, " I am going to mix my colors."

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

This is the first semester I ever blog. It was very confusing for me. I started out good but then could not know log in my blog. It was really hard and complicated to complete my blog. I actually got the point of the blog until today. I guided my friend and taught her how to blog the first week of class and now in my last blog she is the one who taught me to do correctly.LOL.

But now that I found out you can add pitures and how to log in correctly it is fabulous. It is another way to conversate with our class peers and professor.

"KNOWLEDGE IS POWER"

I learned valuable knowledge in the lab. I would always write down the book the teacher would read during circle time. I would also write down quotes the teacher would use in the classroom. I would write down new activites I learned about. I think by just being in an observing student you get essetial knowledge and resources you can use when you take praticum and as a teacher. I learned new songs, new books, and new ideas that I would use as soon as I got back to my class. I also got to observe each child and each adult in the classroom.

Sand Box Play Area

Today when I observed the children playing outdoors I noticed three children playing in the sand box area. One of the children was really struggling to make a hole in the sand. Another child (girl) comes to the san area and asks him " do you need help?" " NO" said the other child while he was walking towards a shovel. He grabbed the shovel and started digging a big hole and the other child just stood there and observed him while he was digging. the child that was digging looks at her and says " I'm done," (with a satisfying look in his face.)  Child tells girl " Come, you can put both feet on the hole." Girl goes inside the hole and stands there.  Another child walks in and asks them if she can join them. The child goes and grabs a bucket with water and  pours it on the hole where the other girl was standing. the girl standing in the hole says "It's cold like ice." The other children went inside the hoe and started mixing the dirt and the water with their feet. I really enjoyed observing the reaction in their faces and the way did they interacted amongst themselves. I would extend this activity with a sensory activity that way i can extend the way children use their vocabulary.

to ARIANA

I loved the clothes and shoes they have at the center for the children. In my school they do not have alot of clothes and the children do not play in the dramatic play area they go to other areas. The clothes that we have is from Lakeshore. The clothes at the center is very unique and plenty for all classes.

to Alejandra

I really liked the activity of the pumpkins because even though at the center they do not celebrate holidays, the pumpkins are a part of Halloween. I also have a book that talks about seasons and vegetables through out the year at the end it talks about pumpkins. I am going to read it to my children and make an activity with them of pumpkins.

to dwan i cant post on yours

These observations can be used for her teacher for the teacher to complete the DRDP on the girl. The girl is getting close to adult she knows that is a stage of a exlporing in one measurement. She is also completed a cake using tiles and showed her work to teacher and aide. That is like two measurements for the DRDPs.

A day at school

Today was very interesting in my observation class. I found out what a child is very good at. The past weeks I had notice that one certain child does not play in the playground but instead prefers to draw. The teacher brings out art material for the child and peers. The child is engage in the art through out the time we are outside. The child does very beautiful and artistic work . The child has a bestfriend and is always with her when we are inside the classroom or out in the back patio. We go outside at 10:20 AM and you will see her playing with other children but as soon as the teacher brings out the art materials, she will come and sit down at the table.

My First Observation

The first day I was in the classroom was very different from what I had expected. I had observed that classroom and I had loved it. The vibe of the classroom was tense but I know that the teachers are working hard to get the classroom back on track.

I observed the children outside in the patio during circle time. I like the way the site is built because it gives advantages for the teachers. The teachers and children can choose where they want to be in the patio or inside the classroom.

The teacher had a bag with the children’s name inside. The children were sitting down on a small carpet. There present during circle time. Sixteen children were sitting on the carpet and one was running inside and outside the classroom. The teacher picked a name from the bag, the child was Maya. Maya got up and went to the teacher. The teacher said," Pick a Song." Maya said," I want this one." The teacher asked Maya," Do you want to sing it by yourself or all together?" Maya responded, “By myself." Maya sang the song very quietly. Maya got to pick a name out the bag, she picked Haris. Circle time started at 11:35AM and ended at 11:51AM.
